Tara Scotti – Figure Girl

Tara says “I was so excited for the Nationals, because it was the first ever Figure Nationals. I felt I was on point with my training and diet and was very happy with my physique. I was confident that I was doing very well that night. After pre-judging, I got a lot of positive feedback. And not just from my friends and family.

When I was called for 4th place, I was very disappointed. I was more upset because when I asked why I took 4th, I was told I was a little too “hard”, but the girl who took 1st in the short class was very hard herself, so I was upset at the inconsistency of the judging.”

Laurie Steele – Exercise Girl

Where and when were you born?
San Jose, CA 1970

What is your profession?
Fitness Model

Were you involved in sports or fitness prior to bodybuilding and how did you get started with weight training?
I was always involved in sports in school, basketball, volleyball, track, gymnastics, cheerleading. I was a serious tomboy as a young girl, I had three older brothers whom I played basketball with and rode dirt bikes with.

Was it a goal for you to compete in bodybuilding competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body?
At first I had planned on competing, but decided to focus on the modeling aspect more.

Please tell me something about your training routine (ie: how many days per week / training split /cardio, etc.)
I train at least 5 days a week, usually an hour of running and 30 minutes cardio. I hit each body part at least once a week. and legs sometimes twice.

As you are well aware proper training, cardio, and diet is crucial in being prepared in a bodybuilding line-up. Knowing how to properly implement each can give you that extra edge against the competition.

Many bodybuilders preparing for their bodybuilding contest do so haphazardly. They end up losing gym and holding fat. At the last minute they realize they are not in the condition they should be and they implement last minute “tricks” to try to come in harder.

I’m Monica Martin, and I’m a professional lesbian bodybuilder from South America. I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. However, I lived most of my early life in the city of Santos. Santos is located on the coast of Brazil, about 70 kilometers from Sao Paulo.

I began bodybuilding as a teenagers, and have been training ever since. I was the first bodybuilder from my country to classify as a professional bodybuilder.

I began competing after a few years of training, and won first place in all competitions which I entered, including:

Brazilian National Championship, South American Championship, and Ibero-American Championship

I won the Lightweight Division of the 2007 Team Universe. Let me rephrase. I am the 2007 Team Universe Lightweight Bodybuilding Champion. Woah! That sends chills down my spine. It gets even better, though, folks. As a reward for winning the only drug tested NPC event at the national level, I earned a spot to represent the U.S. at the 2007 IFBB World Amateur Women’s Bodybuilding Championship in Spain on September 21st.

This was better than a pro card.

This was worth waiting for.

Kim Bruno – Gym Girl

Let’s face it. Even the most devoted exercisers can get bored doing the same workouts week after week. And, if the mind is getting bored you can bet that the body is probably too, which means it isn’t being challenged as much as it should.

But, with the many, many training options to utilize, being bored should not even be an option. This is especially true when it comes to strength training. Variety with resistance training is practically endless – from different pieces of equipment, training techniques, sequences and more.

Colette Nelson – Workout Girl

My name is Colette and I grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan, a small suburb outside of Detroit and attended Michigan State University (MSU), where I received a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics and a minor in Dance. While at MSU, I started to develop a passion for weight training. Before I started weight training, I looked like your typical 5’5”, 120 pound aerobic instructor / modern dancer. I had a decent shape, but I was tall. I taught a lot of aerobics classes while attending MSU, and at that time it was “FINE” to see how many aerobics classes you could do in a row. I remember a time when I used to teach 20 + aerobics classes a week. Talk about a way to burn fitness!
